SIGMOD 2020 Travel Award

IMPORTANT NOTE (Apr 12, 2020): Because SIGMOD 2020 will be held entirely online, the student travel award is canceled.

NOTE: Travel award applicants should NOT register for the conference but wait for specific registration instructions from the conference organizer, as we will not be reimbursing the registration fee, but instead provide free student registrations to awardees.

Thanks to the generous support from SIGMOD, the National Science Foundation (NSF), and other sponsors, we will provide travel grant awards to selected students attending the SIGMOD/PODS conference. The awards will include free student conference registrations and financial support for traveling. The financial support for traveling is in the form of a stipend to partially cover the transportation and accommodation expense to attend the conference. Awardees are expected to register to the main conference and will make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation.

The travel award is made possible due to generous sponsorships by SIGMOD, NSF, and industry partners. These sponsors may request contact information of the awardees. Applicants will be asked whether they opt-in this option.

Eligibility
Applicants must be a full-time student (undergraduate or graduate) at the time of applying for this award, and they must be a SIGMOD student member at the time of receiving this award. To become a member of SIGMOD, you do not need to be a member of the ACM - students can join SIGMOD for $10.

Applicants are eligible to apply for the SIGMOD student travel award even if they have submissions under consideration at other award-granting events, such as the Undergraduate Research program, the Programming Contest, or the New Researcher Symposium. However, an applicant cannot receive more than one travel award in total.

Applicants do not need to have an accepted paper to be eligible. However, students who are primary authors of an accepted paper in the main conference or the workshops are especially encouraged to apply. Junior students without papers accepted for publication at SIGMOD/PODS, but involved in research closely related to the topics of the conference are also encouraged to apply. Applications from female and minority students are especially encouraged.
